Prominent politician of the Democratic Party during Iowa's early days as a state. Dodge was a supporter of the Homestead Bill, Compromise Bill of 1850, anti-slavery legislation, and temperance. He served 3 terms as a congressional representative (1840-1846) before becoming one of Iowa's first 2 senators. George Wallace Jones (1804-1896), born in Vincennes, Indiana, was a prominent jurist and politician in the upper mid-west region of the United States. He graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in 1825.
